I%26#39;m trying to decide between three hotels/motels in McPherson. I%26#39;ll be there for 3-4 nights in June. I know it%26#39;s not a big deal, but here are the pros and cons:
Econo Lodge - least expensive; a couple of friends will be staying there, but I don%26#39;t need to stay with them; may be a 1 star hotel
Best Western - a little more money, may be nicer than Econo Lodge
Mc Pherson Days Inn - the photo makes this hotel look much better than the other two, but there are no reviews here; may cost more
My main concerns are safety and cleanliness; my least concern is price... I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s a big difference.
Your thoughts? Thanks.

I can%26#39;t help with the hotels but safety is not a concern in McPherson,KS.

I would add the Holiday Inn Express to your list. It would be the newest in McPherson.
I stayed three nights at the Days Inn in McPherson last year, and found it to be quite satisfactory.
The Best Western is the oldest mentioned, but I do not know if it has undergone any recent remodeling. It did have both an outdoor, and indoor pool once upon a time when I stayed there...three or four years ago.
As the other poster said, you are probably as safe in McPherson, Kansas, as in any town in America. If you are with wife, or family...don%26#39;t miss the nice park, just north of Kansas Ave, between downtown, and the hotels out east. A great place to relax beside some small lakes.
All the motels are located just west of the I-135 interchange with US56. (Kansas Avenue). When I was last there, nearby was an Applebee%26#39;s, Perkin%26#39;s Restaurant (Kansas chain), and a steakhouse (Montana Max%26#39;s?...formerly a Sizzler). Also a McDonalds, KFC, Arby%26#39;s, and a Taco fast food. A ';Super'; Wal-Mart is within walking distance.

Have a safe trip.
Wow, still hard to choose. Sounds like I can%26#39;t really go wrong. I%26#39;ll check into info on Days Inn a little more.
The only reason I bring up safety is that I%26#39;m visiting a group of friends in town but am traveling/lodging alone as a minority female (mostly the female part, the minority part might just make me stand out :-) or not even!), so no big burly guy to step in a protect me if I%26#39;m accosted by drunken college students. :-)
Oh... but cleanliness is a big deal. I%26#39;m squeamish about hotel rooms, sort of the necessary evil type of thing whether it%26#39;s a small motel or a large chain spa hotel. In fact, I%26#39;m bringing my own sheets!!!
NM_Photojournalist,
It sounds like you have been in McPherson a lot. Are there no local restaurants worth visiting?

I spent several weeks in McPherson as an executor, and sampled just about every eatery in town. Sadly, I would have to say Applebee%26#39;s is the cream of the crop. Of course, this nice, little city is only about 14,000 in population.
If someone who lives in the McPherson environs, knows of some ';special'; restaurant...I would be the first one who would like to hear about it! :-)
