want a decent, inexpensive place to stay one night

My friend and I decided rather quickly to attend the Symphony in the Flint Hills on June 13, 2009. The only problem is now we don%26#39;t have a place to stay that is relatively close to Cedar Point . We%26#39;re two women (our husbands refused to go) and we don%26#39;t want to drive back to Kansas City in the middle of the night. On the other hand, we have been looking at reviews for all the hotels in Emporia and are appalled at the discrepancies in them. Any ideas for a decent, safe, clean place to stay for one night? We prefer it be fairly close to I-35.

I have stayed at the Fairfield Inn and it has been fine. There are several chain motels in the same area which should be fine to stay in. They are close to Wal-Mart just off the Industrial Road exit of I-35. They are also close to U.S.50 which takes you to Cedar Point.

I was satisfied with the Comfort Inn when we stayed there a couple of weeks ago. It is right by I-35, though Google maps put it on the wrong side of the highway.

Last year I tried the much less expensive Rodeway Inn and was unhappy with its cleanliness and condition. I also had safety concerns, something rare in small town Kansas.

Thanks for your reply. I wasa concerned about the location and wondered how far off the road it was. Think we%26#39;ll skip that place.

lighthouselovertoo What saftey concerns did you have? We are planning on attending the symphony in the Flint Hills also and there%26#39;s not much available at this point. I did reserve the Roadway Inn but can always cancel. Thank youd

Well, we decided on the Days Inn. I%26#39;m hoping for the best. Every hotel I researched had such discrepancies in the reviews. I didn%26#39;t even want to drive as far as Emporia, but we didn%26#39;t have a choice. There was nothing left in Strong City or Cottonwood falls. We didn%26#39;t want to drive to KC so late after the concert. Days Inn, here we come!!

DotCalm, When I went to the room assigned to me, the door was not closed all the way and when I opened the door, someone%26#39;s stuff was in there. When I returned to the desk, the clerk gave me a new room, but acted like it was no big deal.

There were cars with people in them hanging around in the parking lot everytime that I was outside.

The wife and I went to the Symphony in the Flint Hills a few years ago when it was at the Z-Bar Ranch outside of Cottonwood Falls. The weather was nasty, hot and very windy, but by the time the concert started the wind had died down and we had a very enjoyable evening.

Be sure and listen to the lectures/story tellers. Very entertaining,we especially enjoy Dr. Jim Hoy who grew up on a ranch around Cassoday and is a Professor of Literature at Emporia State University.

Thanks for the tips. As far as the weather, I%26#39;m sure it will be very hot or a tornado will come right through the wheat fields. Whatever the case, I am really looking forward to the day and all it has to offer.
