Older Type Nice Hotel in Kansas? Advice Please

Several years back we stayed at the Grand Central Hotel in Cottonwood Falls. It was a great experience. A very nice hotel in an older community.

Are there any other renovated nice older hotels in Kansas?

Wichita has the Hotel at Oldtown. As a way to rejuvinate the downtown area they have taken a lot of the old wharehouses and turned them into businesses. Don%26#39;t know where you are staying but this is an option.

Try www.midland-hotel.com. It is located in Wilson,KS.just south of I-70 at exit 206 about halfway between Salina and Russell.

There is also one in Chanute,Ks. that I can not remember the name of.

The Senate Suites just west of our State Capitol was renovated several years ago, and some of our legislators stay there during the session. The Capitol is located at 10th and Topeka Blvd. The Senate is one block west of 9th and Topeka Blvd and a block from Topeka High School (it was the first million dollar high school built west of the Mississippi back in the 30%26#39;s)

Also First Presbyterian Church at 8th and Topeka has Tiffany Windows (the only ones?) in the sanctuary if you are interested in it. They are gearing up for their 150th Anniversary celebration sometime in the next year or so, I think.

We also now have the Brown National Historic Museum at 15th and Monroe St. that is also near the area.

Thanks so much for these responses! I%26#39;m going to look them up right now.

Please feel free to give any more Kansas type advice. We%26#39;re from NC and loved our visit to Kansas and want to come back.

Having only dined there, I recomended the Midland Hotel to someone last year. They tried it and said the trains passing a couple of hundred feet away in the night were a problem.

I am not sure if it fits your description of hotel you are looking for, but there are some bed a breakfast homes in Lindsborg and antique shops that are fun.

Anyone have experience staying at the Eldridge Hotel in Lawrence?

I never stayed there but had lunch there several times when I worked at KU, and it was a beautiful building...didn%26#39;t they do some renovations a couple years ago? If so, that is a great suggestion! Then an enjoyable stroll window shopping on Mass Street would add to the fun.

I would recommend the Swedish Country Inn in Lindsborg (18 miles south of Salina). Quite charming, and centrally located for many shops and restaurants. I%26#39;m not sure if one would catagorize it as a hotel, B%26amp;B, or both...but we enjoyed our two day/two night stay, and hope to return in the future.

The name of the hotel in Chanute is the Tioga Suites, it%26#39;s a National Historic Site.
