Looking for reviews of The Row House and The Woodward

Hi all!

Taking my husband to The Woodward B%26amp;B for our anniversary...looking for reviews, I%26#39;ve only seen one on this site so far. I hope I%26#39;m not disappointed! I do hear it%26#39;s not in the BEST part of town, but the historic mansions never are...

Also looking for reviews of The Row House Restaurant. Anyone been? Any other recommendations for a nice anniversary dinner?

Thanks!!!!!

Hi missy...I%26#39;ve been in the Woodward but only for a reception (and it isn%26#39;t in a very good part of Topeka so just don%26#39;t go roaming around at night by yourself)

The Row House is EXCELLENT!!! We%26#39;ve been there twice and enjoyed the experience both times...try the tasting menu since it is a few dollars more, and you can sample all the chef%26#39;s courses that day. There is a web site with the menu (think it changes every Thursday).

Happy anniversary and hope you enjoy your stay!

I%26#39;ve stayed at the Woodward and very much enjoyed the surroundings and service. No, it is NOT in the best part of town, but it%26#39;s also not THAT bad. I simply wouldn%26#39;t suggest doing a night time walk through the area. As you are taking your husband for an anniversary celebration, perhaps you could devise a plan to spend some time together exercising and relaxing in other ways indoors.

The particular event I attended included fabulous meals which were very well presented, well prepared and tasty, but the quantity of food was a disappointment. My husband finished dinner and spent some time socializing, then promptly drove to Burger King to get some meat for he and his friends. Some men just are not into Nouveau Cuisine! Go figure!

Elizabeth and her staff were pleasant and courteous, attentive to needs yet were unobtrusive when they were not needed. The rooms were exquisitely decorated and the entire place clean clean clean!

I would definitely go again if I had an occasion.

Oh, and the library is a must see, as well as the cobalt glass collection.

Hope you enjoy your time there, and Happy Anniversary!

Visiting Topeka from Denver this past weekend, we spotted mention of Row House in a Topeka guidebook and decided to give it a try. Wow. Set inside a lovely old home, the service was outstanding, the setting fun and funky, and the food was great. If they took their $30 tasting menu and unraveled it so that each of the samples was served as a separate small course on a series of small plates, this would easily be a $60 dinner and people would be raving about the wonderful 7- or 8-course meal being served. At $30 for the tasting dinner, this is a fine-dining steal. HIGHLY recommended.

Also worth noting - one person in our 3-person party was a vegetarian,. Row House strives to be very vegetarian friendly, with a vegetarian main course always available and a salad or appetizer that is also a vegetarian choice. Our vegetarian diner was very pleased.
