we are planning to go to Wichita for a few days, we never been in that area. Where is a good area to stay? We do not want to spend alot of money but we want to be safe. My husband was looking at the Best Western Govenor Inn? What do you think of that hotel?

hotel in Wichita
I know nothing personally about the hotel only that it is fairly new. It is located in a mostly commercial area with several fast food chain restaurants that are close by. There is a great hole in the wall Mexican restaurant(Jalisco) directly across the street. It is located in the extreme southern part of Wichita but only about 10 minutes from downtown and is very close to Interstate 35.

Carol ... it%26#39;s way out South. What are you going to be doing in Wichita ... that is, what places are you going to? If those places are out South too, you should be fine; if not, you can stay a lot of places in Wichita and be safe, and also be close to where you want to be. The near-Northeast side is generally to be avoided, but I%26#39;ve had little or no trouble elsewhere. If you tell us where you%26#39;re headed, we could give some more precise pointers.
Have a good visit!
we want to go to the zoo and that new wild animal park for sure. Not sure what else. We are staying near Hutchinson at a bed a breakfast for one night and will hit the space muesume. We thought we might go to the drive in theater, since we do not have any near us. We might do some shopping. We will have a 16 year old with us. We thought about the waterfront anra or the airport, not really sure.

I would stay in the Airport area with those places you want to visit. The zoo is wonderful and in the NW part of town. Tanganyika Wildlife Park is West of Wichita. The Best Western near the airport is nice with a nice indoor pool area. There is a value place hotel at Ridge and 54 you might check into. It is newer, I have not personally seen it.
Definatley go to the drive in. For me it is a piece of nostalgia to be shared with a new generation. My family tries to go atleast twice a year, and sometimes more. Bring lawn chairs to see outside, you will need to sit in front of your vehicle until the first show begins and if the space next to remains open you can take over. Or if it is a slower night, you will be able to sit next to your car. The ';real food'; in the snack bar is decent, but more expensive. I would eat ahead of time, but plan to get some snacks from the snack bar, part of the nostalgia and supports a dying part of American culture.
Something that just occurred to me that would make a great day trip from Wichita would be the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Museum and the Salt Mine Museum both in Hutchinson which is about an hours drive northwest of Wichita.

Been away a while ... I agree with staying on the west side, airport area, for the visits you are planning. I wouldn%26#39;t be afraid of the west side of downtown, though, if you could get a good rate at the Broadview or something. It would also be a pretty easy drive to come in from the Park City area on the north, if the hotels out there are offering low rates since the theme park closed.
We are planning to go to Hutchingson, ifn fact we are staying at a bed a breakfast there. Daughteris a science nut we would not miss the space center, thought of going to the salt muesume, depends wht time we get there. Other hotels we looked into are Best western Goverens inn
Cambridge Suites
Comfort Suites Wichita (town square west)
Hawthorn Suites West ( although we do not golf)
Quality Suites Airport
the best western by the airport does not have rooms avaible when we go.
Carol
catqueen,---The Quality Suites and Comfort Suites are basically next to each other just north of the airport with an access road onto Kellogg Street(hiway400) which is the main east-west road thru Wichita. Cambridge Suites are in the downtown area. Some of them may have small kitchens but you would need to check with them to be sure. Towne West Shopping Center is about two miles away. All three are new and should be fine to stay in.
Safety is really much of a problem as long as you are not out in certain areas at 2:00 A.M. when the bars close and members of the local brain trust hit the street.
Go to www.kansas.com and you will find an article in todays local paper about the new wildlife park.
It%26#39;s pricey for the ICT but the Marriott in Old Town is smack dab in the middle of many (not all) ';fun'; things to do here. Or, the Hyatt on the river.
