rush hour traffic

How will the traffic be on Thursday from the airport to downtown at 5 PM? Also, the next morning, going back to the airport around 9 AM. Is there a freeway that goes close to downtown? Thanks. Marlyne

rush hour traffic

At 5PM the traffic will be fairly heavy but if you are used to driving in a city it should be no problem. It is less than 10 minutes from the time you leave the airport till the downtown area and is all 4-6 lanes with no traffic signals. One word of caution, people seem to not want to use their turn signals to change lanes and it can look like a bunch of rabbits running out of a brush pile. At 9AM the heaviest traffic will be over.

Thanks. I had actually wanted a hotel by the airport, but priceline gave me the Broadview. All the reviews on here are horrible, so I am rather concerned. I%26#39;m just there one night, so I am sure it will be fine. Do you know if the neighborhood is safe? Thanks again. Marlyne

Marlyne, The Broadview should be fine. The last I knew it was a Radisson hotel . Try www.360wichita.com/hotels and you will find info about the Broadview. The area is safe, about the only time there is any trouble is in the Old Town district which is several blocks from you. When the bars close the brain trust 20 somethings can be a little unruly.

The area just across the river to the west of the hotel(Delano) is interesting. It has several shops,a few restaurants and bars. The downtown area is actually more of an interesting place to stay than close to the airport.

When will you be here?

I will arrive from Indiana this Thursday. My Mom, sister (flying from Portland Oregon) and I are flying in for a family reunion. The family reunion is in Hutchinson on Friday-Sunday. We will have Thursday evening to enjoy the river and Friday morning. Thanks. Marlyne

Hi Marlyne. If you would be interested the Music Theater of Wichita has a performance of '; Damn Yankees'; at 8:00 in the convention center directly across the street from the Broadview. My wife and daughter have season tickets and enjoy the shows immensely. Just an idea anyway.

If you visit the Delano area, check out the Nu-Way.

It is the original restaurant of this small chain of loose meat hamburger restaurants. Just drive-in style food, but all done well. And they make their own (wonderful) rootbeer.

It opened opened on July 4, 1930.

Thanks for the great ideas. Marlyne

I would disagree with Patrick only for the fact that rush hour is all relative. I just moved here from Chicago and my ';commute'; is hardly harrowing. When I first moved here I was staying about 7 miles away via freeway and it would take me well under 15 minutes. I%26#39;d jump on the freeway and go 70 without many issues (the driver%26#39;s are terrible here, they all drive the limit OR BELOW on the surface streets so be warned if you like to drive like a normal person...over the limit)

Kellogg throws you right in Old Town and right in the airport. It%26#39;s maybe 5 miles away and a clean, straight shot.
